Axle Assembly Service

Believe us, you do not want to do this job on your own the first time!

· Kit axle shafts are painted to prevent rusting.

· Old axles are removed and shortened kit ones are installed.

· New Ford-approved Valvoline Axle grease is packed and “burped” before shipment.

· Thunderbird CV cups are cleaned and painted prior to reassembly.

Price: $120.00 per side

If there is one area of the conversion process that eludes people more than the wiring its shortening up your Thunderbird half-shafts by swapping in the kit’s shorter axles. This is, by far, the most disgusting and joyless part of the entire conversion process. First you have to separate the old universals from the old axles. This involves contact with gobs of disgusting old axle grease, followed by the joy of ether cutting or “banging” the universal halves off the ends of the old axle with a pipe. Then, if you have not yet had enough fun, you get to pack new, perhaps just slightly less disgusting new axle grease into the new boots with your bare hands while simultaneously attaching and tightening the boot clamps and getting grease EVERYWHERE.

Should this sound like just too much fun for you send them down to us at MRM and we’ll convert them for you. Send us your Thunderbird half shafts and Monster Miata kit axles and boots and for only $120 per side we’ll do the dirty work for you! When we return them to you they'll be ready to slip into your differential with new boot clamps holding them tight with new grease inside and even reinforcing zip ties applied to the boots to keep them from “ballooning” when you hit 120 mph or so.

The basic service includes service to your Thunderbird Half shafts that you send out to us but if you prefer we can locate new or remanufactured ones for you here to use as a starting point. Alternately, we can find you a good looking set of used ones to start with for a lower cost. If you need donor axles please state that in you email to us and we’ll let discuss your options with you further.
